Six Dimension of Wellness which are closely connected with overall happiness.

  • Vocation/Occupational – Promotes the process of both determining and achieving positive goals (both personal and occupational) and interests. For example, Martha, a retired 30 year kindergarten teacher, feels good when educating individuals.  As result, we assisted her in procuring a volunteer role with an elementary school reading to kindergarten students 3 times a week.
  • Social – Promotes feeling of connectedness. Assist older adults in creating and maintaining healthy relationships. Helping clients in staying connected to friends and family through technology.
  • Spiritual – Promotes seeking meaning and purpose in human existence. Providing older adults with tools to help them log in to their online church services and bible study sessions.
  • Physical – Promotes participation in personal safe exercise activities according to their abilities.
  • Intellectual – Promotes expanding their knowledge and skills-base. For example, supporting clients in continuing to develop their intellectual wellness. We partner with them in identifying enjoyable ways to mentally challenge themselves.  Activities such getting them library card and gaining access to audio books, learning something new, along with invigorating conversations.
  • Emotional – Promotes awareness and acceptance of one’s feelings. For example, an individual may be unhappy after the loss of a loved one.  We help them find avenues to help them through the grieving process.

#Why get dressed in the morning?

This question is usually easy to answer when you have children, employment, or other family responsibilities.

As we age (especially during the pandemic), we find it more difficult to find a reason to get dressed. A 97-year-old woman told me that she gets up and dressed every day at 8:30 am as if she was going out to lunch with her friends. She said that when she looks in the mirror and sees herself looking good, she feels better. I pondered her statements because I know several other older adults who feel like there isn’t a reason to get out of the bed let alone get dressed. While in deep thought, I realized that how we feel about ourselves plays a critical role in our drive to live fuller lives. #GoldenConnectionSeniorServices

Engage in simple activities like:

  1. Getting out of the bed
  2. Getting dressed like you are leaving the house
  3. Calling a friend (and talk for at least 30 mins)
  4. Get out of the house for fresh air..take a short walk to the street curb
  5. Plan your calendar for 7 days with one fun activity each day

Having activities to look forward to gives you something to get excited about every day. Giving you a reason to get dressed!
